Gary Allson trained at Wimbledon College of Art and at the Royal College of Art, London specialising in design production. He is now a lecturer in Sustainable Product Design at University College Falmouth and lives in Cornwall.
Allson’s decorative and functional wood platters, bowls and panels are hand made or produced using a 3 axis digital milling machine. He uses locally and sustainably sourced Oak, Beech, Cherry and Ash. His hand made pieces have a simplicity of form and technique which places focus on the material used.
In 2011 the results of his innovative interdisciplinary collaboration with the weaver Ismini Samanidou, using textile software tools to create works with wood, paper and weaving were shown in the Wills Lane Gallery’s exhibition Craft Code 011 New Ways of Making. (The Wills Lane Gallery was run by Petronilla Silver)
